Learner journeys for vocational qualifications
Qualifications Wales has published updated learner journeys for vocational qualifications, to support learners across Wales as they explore their next steps for the 2026-2027 academic year.
First introduced last year, our learner journey resources were developed in collaboration with colleges, training providers, awarding bodies, careers advisers and, importantly, learners themselves.
They are available as one-page flyers that map out vocational qualifications at entry level to level 3 that are delivered in schools, further education colleges and work-based learning settings.
Learner journeys provide a clear overview of the vocational qualifications available in key sectors. They’re available to help young people understand the qualification n routes that are open to them, whether that is further study, apprenticeships, or directly entry into employment. They’re designed to:
- support learners and their parents and carers as they research their options in a vocational area
- be simple to use
- provide a snapshot of all the qualification pathways and options available.
What’s new for 2026-2027?
We have been reviewing the learner journeys with partners and updating them where required, to ensure they remain accurate, relevant, and aligned with the latest qualifications and pathways available in Wales.
The learner journeys still present the same clear overview of all the vocational options available in each sector; they’ve simply been updated to reflect the options available for the next 2026-2027 academic year.
Leanne Hallett, Senior Qualifications Manager at Qualifications Wales said:
“We wanted to produce helpful resources for learners that show all the different options and pathways available in a range of sectors.”
“Although each learner journey may differ slightly, reflecting the different qualification landscape, they all provide a snapshot what options are available.”
“Learners who are exploring their options for the next academic year can check out the learner journeys on the Qualifications Wales website. Whether they are choosing subjects in school, considering college courses, or looking for routes into work-based learning, the updated maps are here to help learners understand the full breadth of choices available to them.”
