What’s next for AS and A level Cymraeg?

Come and see us at Eisteddfod yr Urdd to find out

Once again this May half term, Qualifications Wales will have a stand at Eisteddfod yr Urdd, the National Youth Festival of Wales which this year takes place in Gwalchmai, Anglesey.

As one of Europe’s largest youth cultural festivals, the week-long Welsh language event attracts over 90,000 visitors. Around 15,000 young competitors from all over Wales will be battling it out in a huge range of contests, from recital and poetry writing, to theatrical performance, dance, music, craft and design, and science.

For the duration of the event – from Saturday 23 May to Friday 29 May – our team will be on hand on the Maes (the Eisteddfod field) to answer all your questions and queries. We can tell you everything you need to know about the brand-new National Qualifications for 14 to 16-year-olds. With further new qualifications coming this September, and a huge range of new vocational qualifications launching in 2027, we can run you through all of the different pathways. So, whether you’re a learner, parent or carer, teacher, work-based learning trainer or employer, please call in to see us on Stand 65-66.

At noon on Monday, 25 May we will be holding a panel discussion on our stand:
Now, next and in the future – AS and A level Cymraeg and Core Cymraeg.

For this event, Lleu Williams, Qualifications Wales’ Head of Strategic Engagement, will be joined by:

  • Lleucu Siencyn, Director of Strategy and Delivery at Adnodd
  • Wyn Jones, Qualifications Development Officer at WJEC
  • Student Mai Owen, who studied A level Cymraeg
  • Meleri Roberts, teacher of Welsh at Ysgol David Hughes, Porthaethwy

The panel will discuss the next steps for the introduction of new AS and A level Cymraeg and Core Cymraeg qualifications from 2027. Everyone is welcome to join us for this free event.
